The Year 2026 in Turkmenistan: Marked by Cultural Heritage and “Winged Horses”

On January 10, 2026, at the first meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, approved the work plans for the cultural sector. The main focus of the relevant agencies will be the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence and the organization of various events under the year’s motto: “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses.” About this report Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

According to the report by Deputy Prime Minister B. Seyidova, one of the priority areas of work is enhancing the international standing of the country through cooperation with UNESCO. Plans for this year include preparing national and multilateral nominations for inclusion on the World Heritage List, large-scale restoration and research efforts on the country’s historical and cultural monuments, and the promotion of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Turkmen people.

Based on the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan to align the activities of cultural institutions with the demands of the time, several steps have been outlined.

Thus, tasks arising from the Concept for the development of the digital economy will need to be implemented in museums, libraries, and specialized educational institutions. The “Türkmenfilm” Association, named after Oguz Han, will begin producing new films reflecting the achievements of the current era. Theatres will focus on staging performances that “reflect the spirit of the times.” Additionally, new creative competitions will be announced.

Special attention will be given to the development of international tourism and improving the quality of cultural services for the population. Measures are planned to strengthen the material-technical base of cultural departments and to regularly enhance the qualifications of cultural workers.
