Malaysia’s Overseas Community Honoured During PM’s Visit

Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim met members of the Malaysian diaspora and friends of Malaysia in Turkmenistan during a special dinner reception held in Ashgabat as part of his official visit to the country.

The event, titled “Dinner with Malaysian Diaspora and Friends of Malaysia in Turkmenistan,” brought together Malaysian citizens residing in Turkmenistan, representatives of Malaysian businesses, diplomatic personnel, and invited guests.

The programme began with the arrival of the Prime Minister, followed by the National Anthem of Malaysia and a doa recital delivered by Mohd Rauf bin Jamaludin.

Welcoming participants, H.E. Mohd Suhaimi Ahmad Tajuddin, Ambassador of Malaysia to Turkmenistan, highlighted the important contribution of Malaysians living and working in Turkmenistan to the development of bilateral relations. He also expressed appreciation for the support extended by the Malaysian community and friends of Malaysia in promoting closer ties between the two countries.

The gathering also featured remarks by Minister of Economy YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Haji Mohd Nasir and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. The ministers outlined Malaysia’s economic priorities and emphasized the growing opportunities for international cooperation, investment and trade.

Addressing the audience, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thanked members of the Malaysian diaspora for their dedication and professionalism abroad. He noted that Malaysians overseas play an important role in enhancing the country’s reputation and strengthening people-to-people connections with partner nations.

The Prime Minister also reflected on the successful outcomes of his official visit to Turkmenistan, which included high-level meetings, the signing of bilateral agreements and discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in energy, trade, investment, transport and education.

The dinner provided an opportunity for members of the Malaysian community and friends of Malaysia to engage directly with the Prime Minister and members of the official delegation. The event concluded with a photo session and cultural performances, including a musical orchestra performance conducted by Rovshen Nepesov.

The gathering underscored Malaysia’s commitment to maintaining close engagement with its citizens overseas while further strengthening friendship and cooperation with Turkmenistan.
