During the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Georgia, bilateral talks were held in Tbilisi with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in both restricted and expanded formats. The meetings concluded with the signing of a Joint Statement and a broad package of bilateral agreements aimed at further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of cooperation in political and diplomatic relations, trade and economy, transport and logistics, energy, industry, education, science, culture, healthcare and tourism.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that relations between Turkmenistan and Georgia are based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and friendship. He also expressed appreciation to the Georgian side for its consistent support of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality and its international initiatives, particularly within the framework of the United Nations.
Special attention was given to expanding trade and economic cooperation, increasing bilateral trade, strengthening the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, and enhancing collaboration in transport and logistics. The parties also highlighted the importance of further developing the Lapis Lazuli International Transport Corridor, the Caspian Sea–Black Sea multimodal route, and the TRACECA transport corridor, while exploring new opportunities for cooperation in energy, communications, tourism, agriculture, construction and the textile industry.
Following the negotiations, nearly 20 bilateral documents were signed between government institutions of Turkmenistan and Georgia. The agreements cover cooperation in foreign affairs, the economy, financial monitoring, culture, education, science, healthcare, industry, transport, maritime and railway sectors, library development and partnerships between higher education institutions.
As part of the Turkmen-Georgian Business Forum held during the state visit, business representatives from both countries conducted more than 50 bilateral meetings. The forum resulted in the signing of commercial contracts and memoranda of understanding in logistics, exports, distribution, insurance services and the supply of construction materials.
