Oil and Gas Forum Highlights 30 Years of Turkmen–Malaysian Energy Partnership
ASHGABAT — An international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia in the oil and gas sector was held in Ashgabat as part of the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The forum, titled “Turkmenistan–Malaysia: 30 Years of Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Industry,” brought together government officials, energy executives, industry experts, and representatives of leading companies from both countries.
Addressing participants, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov described energy cooperation as one of the most successful areas of bilateral relations. He noted the significant contribution of Malaysian energy company PETRONAS, which has been operating in Turkmenistan for three decades.
According to the President, PETRONAS has invested approximately $12 billion in Turkmenistan’s oil and gas industry and played an important role in developing hydrocarbon resources in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised the long-standing partnership, emphasizing that the trust and cooperation established over the past 30 years have created a solid foundation for future projects.
The forum also served as a platform for discussing new opportunities in exploration, production, technology transfer, and investment. Participants expressed confidence that Turkmen-Malaysian energy cooperation would continue to expand, contributing to regional energy security and economic development.
