Artificial intelligence continues to become an integral part of everyday life. According to a preliminary report prepared by the United Nations’ Independent International Scientific Panel, more than 1 billion people worldwide use AI-powered conversational systems every day.
The report identifies ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini among the most widely used AI platforms. These systems are extensively utilized for education, programming, business, content creation, translation, information retrieval, and a wide range of everyday tasks.
At the same time, the United Nations notes that the development of artificial intelligence remains highly concentrated. According to the report, the computing resources required to develop and train advanced AI models are controlled by only a small number of countries and major technology companies.
UN data indicate that 75% of the computing capacity of the world’s top 500 supercomputers used for AI development is located in the United States, while China accounts for another 15%. The report also highlights that nearly all of the world’s leading AI foundation models currently available for global use have been developed by companies based in these two countries.
Experts note that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is creating new opportunities across numerous sectors, including the economy, education, healthcare, and industry. At the same time, the concentration of computing power, data resources, and advanced technologies in a limited number of countries underscores the need to reduce the global digital divide, strengthen international cooperation, and promote the safe and responsible development and use of artificial intelligence.
