From April 15 to 17, 2025, the Youth Forum of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was held in New York City. Turkmenistan was represented at the forum by a youth delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Education, Azat Atayev.
According to the website “Turkmenistan: Golden Age,” on April 16, within the framework of the forum, the second meeting of the Central Asian Youth Dialogue, initiated by Turkmenistan, was held. This event, marking the 10th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security, aimed to strengthen the role of youth in peacebuilding efforts..
During the meeting, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, Aksoltan Atayeva, emphasized the importance of youth diplomacy as an effective tool for enhancing regional cooperation. In his speech, Azat Atayev presented Turkmenistan’s youth policy strategy, focusing on legislative and state programs that support youth participation in social and civic life.
The Turkmen delegation held bilateral meetings with key figures, including Felipe Paullier, the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth; Diene Keita, Deputy Executive Director of UNFPA; and Eliot Minchenberg, UNESCO Representative. Discussions centered on expanding cooperation through joint educational and innovation programs.
Participants also viewed video materials introducing the Central Asian Youth Dialogue, launched by Turkmenistan in the city of Arkadag, highlighting its significance for regional engagement and solidarity.
The Turkmen delegation took active part in plenary sessions on climate change, poverty eradication, and ensuring access to education. They also attended side events organized by the State of Qatar, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
As a result of the forum, participants in the Central Asian Youth Dialogue adopted a joint declaration and established a roadmap for the regular organization of future meetings.
