Together for nature, together for the future

Every year on April 22, people all around the globe come together to celebrate World Earth Day—a special occasion dedicated to raising awareness about environmental protection and promoting actions that help preserve our planet for future generations.

World Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 in the United States, initiated by Senator Gaylord Nelson as a way to encourage environmental reform. It quickly grew into a global movement, and today it is observed in more than 190 countries. The day marks a turning point in the way people think about their relationship with nature.

World Earth Day is more than just a one-day event. It’s a reminder that every day is Earth Day. Protecting our planet is a shared responsibility—and through cooperation, education, and action, we can build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world.

One of Turkmenistan’s strongest environmental actions is its national tradition of planting trees. Every spring, the country celebrates a national tree-planting day, which brings together thousands of people to plant saplings across cities, deserts, and rural areas. This mirrors Earth Day’s theme of restoring nature and fighting deforestation.

Turkmenistan is actively working to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), several of which are directly related to the environment. Earth Day helps amplify these global efforts and reminds all countries — including Turkmenistan — to remain committed to protecting natural resources for future generations.
