Action-Research Innovation Lab in Central Asia

Innovation for Change Central Asia (I4C CA)  invites  creative minds from all over Central Asia to conduct action based research to advocate for social change. The Action-Research Innovation Lab has the goal to enhance the capacity of advocates and civic activists to produce and disseminate knowledge to inform solution design through effective action research. 

This Lab will assist participants to plan a research project to create an evidence-based analysis of a problem, by developing an Action Research approach. This will include the various participatory methods and tools that can be used to bring affected stakeholders into the project. 

The outputs and outcomes from Action Research projects using this approach will include:

– problem identification and analysis; 
– a set of recommendations that can be used to develop solutions or concrete actions to tackle the problem;
– improved knowledge and awareness of the problem for stakeholders.

During this virtual event participants will strengthen their writing and advocacy skills to produce action-based research reports through specific training and skill building; will learn to design and pitch action-based research proposals.

Eligibility: local civil society organizations, civic activists, community leaders, human rights defenders, interested in improving their research, writing, and advocacy skills, and reaching broader audiences with their publications.

Thematic areas of research proposals: civil society enabling environment, shrinking of civic space, human rights and other relevant topics

Criteria:

• have at least two years of experience working in the civil society sector;
• committed to attend for the full duration of the course;
• capacity and commitment to conduct an action-research lab over the next three months.

Participating countries: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan

Small-grants: up to 5 research proposals will be selected through a transparent and competitive selection process and awarded seed-funding ranging from $1000-to $3,000 to conduct the research, and produce action-based research.

Where and when: The virtual Action-Research Innovation Lab will take place on ZOOM over four days, 2 -3 hours each day. The main duration of the lab will be March 16-18 with a pitching session on March 19.
