The UNESCO certificate award ceremony took place in Arkadag city

Recently, the Aba Annayev International Academy of Horse Breeding in Arkadag city hosted a conference that included a ceremony to award a certificate recognizing the inclusion of “Art of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding and Traditions of Horses’ Decorations” in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The conference opened with an exhibition in the foyer of the academy’s main building, showcasing the history of “heavenly” horses, national breeding traditions, modern racehorse care practices, and a variety of photographs and artworks, including decorative arts, carpets, jewelry, and horse gear.

The certificate awarding ceremony was particularly meaningful as it coincided with the 300th anniversary of poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi’s birth, highlighting the joy and celebratory spirit of the Turkmen people.

Speakers emphasized that the decision to add the art of Akhal-Teke horse breeding and related traditions to the UNESCO list was made during the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee in December 2023 in Kasane, Botswana. This proposal received unanimous support from 24 member states.

Following the ceremony, attendees visited the UNESCO club “Akhal-Teke Horses – Ambassadors of Peace” at the academy, where they learned about the history of Akhal-Teke horses and the accomplishments of Turkmen equestrians in international competitions.

The event was further enlivened by a performance from the national equestrian games group “Galkynysh” at the Gorogly State Equestrian Circus in Arkadag city. The young riders showcased their grace, beauty, and agility in complex routines.

The certificate recognizing “Art of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding and Traditions of Horses’ Decorations” will occupy a prestigious place in the history of Turkmen horse breeding.
