Regional Webinar on Countering Disinformation Across Asia

Public organization “Fidokor”, Tajikistan announces a call for participation in two online activities of the I4C Initiative: Countering Disinformation Across Asia:

  1.  Regional disinformation lab
  2. Seed grants competition

Goal of this initiative is to strengthening civil society capacity to counter disinformation and promote cooperation among various civil society actors and sectors in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Regional disinformation lab 

Date and time:

September 27-29, 2021 from 11 am to 1 pm (Dushanbe, Tajikistan) 5:00 GMT time

The goal of the regional lab is to empower activists, campaigners, technologists, media and communities to co-create solutions to address specific inter-regional, country and local community challenges.  in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Objectives of the regional disinformation lab:

  • Enable civil society through cross-sectoral collaboration to develop and test new interventions to address the specific disinformation challenges faced in key countries and across regional borders; and to share the learnings.  
  • The disinformation lab will focus on the challenges and opportunities identified during the preparation and conduction of a regional civil society capacity building workshop. 

Seed grants competition

In frames of Lab, participants will follow a mentoring process to:

  • Identify one specific disinformation problem, identify possible distributors and beneficiaries, analyze peer-to-peer communication skills, and create appropriate solutions and campaigns.  

Developed solutions may include: 

  • media literacy campaigns 
  • counter narrative campaigns with video, pictures, articles or any other creative form
  • monitoring and reporting solutions
  • community developed solutions 

Participants are expected to come prepared with project proposals and strengthen its content during the Lab, using the gained knowledge.

In total, up to 3 project proposals/applications from participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will receive funding between $2,000 and $5,000.

Seed grants period: October – November 2021

Participation Criteria:

–       Activists, campaigners, developers, media and community members interested in collaborative creation of solutions to address specific inter-regional, country and local disinformation problems;

–       Obligatory and active participation throughout the course;

–       Opportunity and commitment to conduct research within two months;

The regional disinformation lab will be hosted on ZOOM platform and conducted by international and regional experts, and led by PO “Fidokor”. The lab will be conducted during three days (2 hours each day) in Russian with translation into English.
