The International Civil Aviation Organization

The 7th of December is the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Day. The purpose of International Civil Aviation Day is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of States, and of the unique role of ICAO in helping States to cooperate and realize a truly global rapid transit network at the service of all mankind.As the UN and world nations have now adopted Agenda 2030, and embarked on a new era in global sustainable development, the importance of aviation as an engine of global connectivity has never been more relevant to the Chicago Convention’s objectives to look to international flight as a fundamental enabler of global peace and prosperity. 

The International Civil Aviation Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It changes the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the development of international air transport to ensure safe and regularly growth.

International Civil Aviation Organization was established in 1944 by the Chicago Convention in order to regulate the safe and orderly development of civil aviation around the world. The organization regulates aviation safety, security, efficiency and regularity, and also for aviation environmental protection. The Air Navigation Commission is the main body within International Civil Aviation Organization. The commission includes 19 commissioners, proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization’s contracting states and appointed by the ICAO Council.International Civil Aviation Organization has a headquarters, seven regional offices, and one regional sub-office. Headquarters are in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Asia and Pacific Bangkok, Thailand. There are six official languages at the ICAO. They are English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic.The Council of ICAO is elected by the Assembly every 3 years and consists of 36 members elected in 3 groups. The present Council was elected in October 2019. Secretary General is Fang Liu.

In April, 1993 Turkmenistan became the full member of ICAO. Now «Turkmenistan Airlines» a flagman carrier of Turkmenistan. According to the program «National program of development of civil aviation of Turkmenistan for 2012-2030» of our Esteemed President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov helped to develop our country’s  air transport. Now «Turkmen Airlines» is made up basically of aircrafts of the make «Boeing» and their number grows up with new modern aircrafts every year. Our country build out a  good system with ICAO, also Turkmenistan has a partnership with European Aviation Safety Agency. The quality growth reached by the transport communication sector of our county’s economy in the sphere of air transport.
