Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel said during a meeting with members of the parliamentary committee on electricity and energy on Sunday that two delegations would visit Qatar and Turkmenistan to discuss possible deals on gas imports, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported, citing the press service of the Iraqi parliament.
The report said the meeting was held to discuss the ministry’s plans to provide electricity during the summer.The head of the committee emphasized the need to continue work to provide citizens with energy, especially in connection with the increase in temperature in the summer months.
Fadel specified that a meeting was held with the Ministry of Oil to achieve effective solutions to the electricity crisis and equip power plants with the necessary fuel.
The Iraqi official added that two delegations would visit Turkmenistan and Qatar to discuss possible deals to import gas from the two countries in order to have enough fuel to run power plants.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani instructed the leadership of the Iraqi energy sector to find alternative solutions for gas imports and, in this context, continue the ongoing efforts to negotiate with Turkmenistan and Qatar.
