President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Discusses with UN Secretary-General at BRICS Summit

Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday during the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, as reported by Turkmenistan’s official media.

During their meeting, both leaders greeted each other warmly and discussed the current state and future prospects of constructive dialogue between Turkmenistan and the UN, focusing on modern global objectives. President Berdimuhamedov congratulated Secretary-General Guterres on United Nations Day and expressed his confidence that the outcomes of this meeting would further enhance their partnership.

The President emphasized that Turkmenistan, adhering to its principles of positive neutrality, continues to strengthen its relationships within the international community. They also discussed Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, highlighting the significance of forthcoming anniversaries: the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

The meeting explored opportunities to expand cooperation in crucial areas. Secretary-General Guterres praised Turkmenistan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and trust in international relations, and he acknowledged the importance of the proposals presented by President Berdimuhamedov at the summit.
