Discuss the role of artificial intelligence in the oil and gas sector

Artificial intelligence is rapidly emerging as a game-changing tool across various industries, especially in oil and gas, which is poised for a major technological shift, experts noted during a roundtable held on Wednesday as part of the Turkmenistan International Energy Investment Forum (TEIF 2025), according to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

The session, titled “The Future of Hydrocarbon Production with AI: Unlocking Reservoir Potential,” brought together experts and representatives from PETRONAS Upstream, Ad Terra, Turkmengaz’s Natural Gas Research Institute, Turkmengeology, and the Ashgabat branch of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Speakers highlighted that AI-powered automation and predictive technologies are enhancing operational efficiency, cutting costs, and opening up access to resources that were previously difficult to reach. Key topics discussed included machine learning-based reservoir modeling, smart drilling technologies, data-centric decision-making, and the role of AI in reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable energy practices.

Co-organized by SPE and the Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC), the session underscored how essential innovation is for the future of the energy industry.

The TEIF 2025 forum is being held in Kuala Lumpur and will continue until April 24.
