Uzbekistan imported 21.6 million kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan, as reported by “Yangi O’zbekiston”, based on information from the Ministry of Energy.
The report says that, Uzbekistan’s power plants made 231. 4 million kWh of electricity. In order to do this, the power plants used 40. 3 million cubic meters of natural gas, 26. 3 thousand tons of coal, and 10. 7 thousand tons of fuel oil.
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan made a deal for Uzbekistan to start buying electricity from Turkmenistan on December 1, 2019.
Uzbekistan buys natural gas from Turkmenistan. Last August, the Uzbek company UzGasTrade and the Turkmen Gas State Concern signed a contract to supply up to 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas each year.
Right now, Turkmenistan is sending electricity to Iran, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan. A new power plant is being built in the Balkan region. It can produce 1574 kilowatts of electricity and will be able to sell electricity to Turkey.
