Oleg Kononenko set a new world record for the total duration of stay in space

Hero of Turkmenistan, commander of the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps Oleg Kononenko set a new world record for the total duration of stay in space.

As the TASS news agency reported on Sunday, on February 4 of this year, Kononenko broke the record, spending 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 48 seconds in space.

Kononenko is currently conducting his fifth space flight. It is expected that on June 5 at 00:00:20 Moscow time he will become the first person to spend 1 thousand days in space. At the end of his annual expedition, the total duration of his stay in space will be 1 thousand 110 days.

Oleg Kononenko, born June 21, 1964 in Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, made his first space flight in April 2008. After returning from his first expedition, he was awarded the titles of Hero of the Russian Federation and Pilot-Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation. In September 2019, he was awarded the title of Hero of Turkmenistan.
