World Health Day

World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7. On this day in 1948the World Health Organization was founded. Since that historical moment, 194 countries of the world have become members of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Since 1950, on the Health Day different organizations hold informative and educational activities so that people can understand the importance of human health in life. Healthcare institutions are called upon to decide on further steps to improve the health of people around the world.

Every year, World Health Day is dedicated to the global health issues of the planet and is held under different mottoes, such as “The safety of blood saves the lives of many”, “Activity is the path to longevity”, “Pregnancy is a special event in life. Let’s make it safe”, “Protecting health from climate change”,“1000 cities – 1000 lives”, “Urbanization and health”, “Antimicrobial resistance and its global spread”, “Good health adds life to years”, “High blood pressure”, “A small bite is a source of great danger”, “Food safety”, “Defeat diabetes!”.

The year 2020 has been declared as the International Year of Nursing and Midwifery Workers. The Health Day celebrated the vital role of nurses and midwives in protecting public health and the need to strengthen nursing and midwifery services.

This year, Health Day is dedicated to combating the spread of coronavirus infection. The motto of the Day is “Let’s build a fairer, healthier world”. It is no secret that all countries have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has been the hardest hit for those communities whose position was vulnerable even before the pandemic. These people are the most at risk of disease, have fewer opportunities to receive quality health care, and are most affected by the negative impact of lockdown measures.

World Health Day is a global campaign with the aim to raise awareness of health issues for every person on our planet and to take joint action to protect the health and well-being of people.

Health Day is celebrated in Turkmenistan on a grand scale. Traditionally, on this day bike races and sport tournaments take place in different corners of the country. Improvement of health of the people has become one of the most priority directions of the policy of Turkmenistan. Sports has greatly impacted the lifestyle of people with fast growing number of different sport facilities in the country.
