On February 13, 2026, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Tajikistan organized a ceremonial event dedicated to the national motto of 2026 — “Independent, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Purposeful Heavenly Horses” — as well as the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The celebration brought together representatives of the Tajik Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the Committee for Youth and Sports under the President of Tajikistan, experts in horse breeding, members of the Turkmen diaspora, students and embassy personnel.
Speakers highlighted the importance of proclaiming 2026 under the above-mentioned motto, emphasizing the country’s commitment to independence and permanent neutrality. Particular attention was given to the cultural value of the Akhal-Teke horse. It was noted that the traditional art of Akhal-Teke horse breeding and horse adornment is inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The international success of the Galkynyş National Equestrian Group was also cited as clear evidence of global recognition of Turkmen equestrian traditions.
Guests were also briefed on the major events scheduled for 2026 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.
As part of the celebration, the embassy organized a photo exhibition and a display of books. Visitors had the opportunity to explore decorative and applied art pieces depicting the elegance of Akhal-Teke horses, artistic photographs, publications authored by the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Hero Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as well as President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. A thematic exhibition showcasing Turkmenistan’s achievements during the years of independence was also presented.
The event concluded with a reception featuring traditional Turkmen cuisine.
