The international hockey tournament started on Monday at the Winter Sports Complex in Ashgabat with an opening ceremony.
Turkmenistan’s official media says that teams from ten countries in Europe and Asia are playing in the hockey tournament.
At the start of the event, the international tournament players were welcomed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan.
“I am firmly convinced that the upcoming competition, which is a significant event in the sporting life of the Motherland, will contribute to strengthening international cooperation in this field, fostering peace and friendship on the planet, popularizing and implementing the principles of the Olympic movement, and enhancing the skills and experience of hockey players,” said the Head of State in a congratulatory message.
After the ceremony, there was a show with music, acting, and sports performances from cultural and artistic people and athletes from sports schools.
The first hockey tournament for the President of Turkmenistan’s Cup happened in 2012. The next year, these competitions became known around the world. In 2015, a new national hockey tournament was included in the country’s sports schedule to honor the Day of Turkmenistan’s State Flag.
