A regular meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality

On December 11, 2023, a meeting about peace and security was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. It was attended by the Group of Friends of Neutrality.

Turkmenistan started a group to talk with other countries about how neutral countries can help make peace. They want to have discussions within the United Nations about how neutral countries can use their influence to create peace.

Today, 25 countries have joined this Group. They are the co-authors of the resolution of the UN General Assembly about “International Day of Neutrality” which talks about the importance of staying neutral in order to keep peace, security, and sustainable development. The resolution was dated February 2, 2017 and was adopted on December 7, 2020.

In December, in the city of Ashgabat, the first meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development was held. They made plans for how the group will work together to make the world more peaceful and secure.

The final statement of the Group’s meeting was published in six official UN languages as an official document of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. It was under item 58 of the agenda called “Peacebuilding and Peacekeeping”.

The Turkmen side thinks that the Group of Friends works hard to get things done. This year, the UN General Assembly declared it the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace. The multilateral Neutrality Group has been very active in promoting peace and trust as part of this year’s plan. In this situation, people noticed when countries worked together and held events with other countries to achieve something.

During the talk, the people said that this way of talking is important for solving problems and making things peaceful and stable.
