A greening campaign was held in the Koytendag Nature Reserve

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, public association enterprise “Tebigy kuwwat” and the Aarhus Center of Turkmenistan, together with the Koytendag State Nature Reserve, held a greening campaign on the administrative territory of the reserve. The greening campaign was timed to the celebration of the 28th anniversary of the permanent neutral status of Turkmenistan, which is celebrated nationwide every year on December 12.

About 25 people took part in the event. Due to the lack of irrigation water in the area of the administrative territory of the reserve, a joint decision was made to hold a greening campaign in several stages, i.e. 200 seedlings in each planting season. This approach will allow for better control and care of young trees, which are particularly in need of this at the early stage of growth. For this, public association enterprise “Tebigy kuwwat” provided 200 seedlings of various tree species free of charge. The main planting front fell on the area in front of the administrative building of the reserve from the side of its entrance gates. To give the reserve a special look, seedlings were planted in the first row juniper, pine in the second, and then thuja and cherry plum. According to the tree planting plan of previous years, many thuja trees were planted both along the perimeter of the fence of the administrative territory of the reserve, and on its areas around the buildings. And this greening campaign continued the planting of thuja seedlings according to the layout drawn up at one time, restoring rows by replacing dried trees. At the end of the event, all the workers ate delicious pilaf prepared by the employees of the reserve in the fresh air. The enterprises that participated in such a useful cause, which have become good partners, have set themselves tasks for the next year to contribute together to the improvement of the development of ecotourism and the entire environmental component of the Koytendag mountain system as a whole.

For reference: The Koytendag State Nature Reserve of the Ministry of
Environment Protection of Turkmenistan is located in the Lebap velayat
(province) in the Koytendag etrap (district), the most southeastern point of
Turkmenistan, and was opened in 1986 with the aim of protecting unique
mountain landscapes, preserving the population of rare screw-horned goats
(markhors), as well as protecting the indescribable beauty of caves. The reserve covers an area of over 200 thousand hectares.
