Turkmenistan is a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Education and Sports

Turkmenistan was elected as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Culture and Sports (CIGEPS) for 2023-2027. The corresponding notification was received from UNESCO headquarters, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov during a Government meeting.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly congratulated everyone on the election of Turkmenistan to CIGEPS, noting that this is clear evidence of the world community’s support for our country’s foreign policy, based on the principle of positive neutrality. Stressing that the traditional fruitful interaction with the UN specialized agency for education, science and culture will continue in the future, the head of state addressed the head of the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan with a number of specific instructions.

It is noteworthy that our country was elected as a member of this UNESCO structure for the period 2017–2021 and actively participated in its activities.

Having identified the field of physical education and sports as one of the priority vectors of state policy, Turkmenistan is taking consistent steps to strengthen effective interaction in this direction – both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

Thanks to the comprehensive strategy initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and now successfully implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, today domestic sports have reached qualitatively new levels.
