Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan: good-neighborly relations

As we know, our country is increasingly strengthening good-neighborly relations with neighboring countries. Developing relations with neighboring countries is an important direction of the state’s foreign policy.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan were established on February 7, 1993 based on an exchange of notes. Since that year, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan have been actively cooperating in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Regular meetings, high-level talks and consultations between the two states clearly testify to it. Also a Turkmen-Uzbek music concert and ceremony was held on February 3 in Ashgabat’s “Dashkent” cultural and recreational park, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Recently, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was on a working visit to Tashkent to participate in the 16th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization, met with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The parties discussed the development of mutually beneficial Turkmen-Uzbek partnership in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The heads of neighbouring states paid special attention to expanding economic cooperation in the Economic Cooperation Organization space. The parties also exchanged views on issues of the international and regional agenda of mutual interest.
