On October 31, 2023, the 9th meeting of a group called the Council of Heads of State Theaters from different countries involved in an organization called the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) took place in the city of Shusha, in the Republic of Azerbaijan. This event is about celebrating the city of Shusha being chosen as the cultural capital of TURKSOY this year. It’s also the 30th anniversary of TURKSOY, the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev’s birth, who was a leader of the Azerbaijani people, and the 150th anniversary of the National Theater of Azerbaijan.
The people in the meeting talked about working together with theaters from other countries. They talked about how it’s important to make stronger connections between theaters.
It was decided to have the 10th meeting of the Council of Heads of State Theaters in Anau, a city that will be the cultural capital of TURKSOY in 2024.
The first TURKSOY International Theater Festival started on November 1 at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater. The Secretary General of TURKSOY S. Raev talked at the event and mentioned that the festival brought together the theater communities of Turkic countries. He also highlighted the significance of improving international theater collaboration.
As a part of the theater festival, actors from the Turkmenistan National Music and Drama Theater performed the play “Love and Sorrow”.
