International Delegate’s Day

Delegates are important individuals in the work of the Organization for results. They started looking for compromises and ways to solve the most important issues of our time. Appointed multilateral diplomacy, the delegates contributed to the advancement of the presentation and ideals of the Organization. Delegates are representatives of UN member states. In this capacity, they are busy promoting the interests of their countries and take part in the meetings of the General Assembly, the Security Council and other main UN bodies.

Recognizing the role of delegates in the implementation of multilateral diplomacy, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming April 25 as the International Day of the Delegate

The resolution emphasizes the role of the delegates of the Member States of the United Nations in achieving the fundamental goals of the United Nations, in particular in maintaining international peace and security and using international mechanisms to promote the economic and social progress of all peoples and in the promotion and development of respect for human rights and fundamental  freedoms as stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations; and the promotion of effective multilateralism. 2021 will mark the seventy-sixth anniversary of the San Francisco Conference that resulted in the creation of the United Nations, an organization of which there are now 193  a member state and which serves as the main international forum for collective dialogue among the delegates of its member states.

The resolution emphasizes the role of the delegates of the Member States of the United Nations in achieving the fundamental purposes of the United Nations, in particular the maintenance of international peace and security and the use of international mechanisms to promote the economic and social progress of all peoples and the promotion and development of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, as provided for in the Charter of the United Nations, and in promoting effective multilateralism.

 The San Francisco conference coped with its gigantic work in exactly two months.  To commemorate this milestone, and in recognition of the role of the representatives of the Governments gathered in the city of San Francisco who have agreed to accept the Charter of the United Nations, the General Assembly has proclaimed International Delegate’s Day.
