Trainings were held in Turkmenistan to strengthen the trade capacity of the country

In the framework of the project “Strengthening the Trade Capacity of Turkmenistan”, jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, the series of online trainings on the development of trade policy skills have been held.

The training sessions, held between 12th and 26th January 2022, involved participation of international consultants from the British company “Crown Agents” Ms. Evgenia Pomerlyan and Mr. Vladimir Trofimchuk, who facilitated the interactive discussions on such topics as the development of  art of negotiation skills, conflicts and interests of individual countries/regions in the area of international trade, trade instruments and risk management, trade research and analysis skills and instruments for regulation of trade in goods and services.

It is expected that the abovementioned trainings will help to strengthen the skills of the national specialists working in the field of trade on developing the trade policy to accelerate the country’s efforts on enhancing the export potential of Turkmenistan.

The event gathered representatives of the line ministries and entities of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Adalat, the Ministry of Education,  the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Industry and Construction Production, the Ministry of Textile Industry, the Central Bank, the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs, the State Customs Service, the Main State Service Turkmenstandartlary, the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service under the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry,  the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

“Considering the current trends and challenges in the trade sector of the global economy, UNDP is supporting the Government of Turkmenistan in strengthening the national capacity to develop effective trade policies in preparing for the country’s accession to the World Trade Organization” – noted Mr. Akmyrat Danatarov, UNDP Programme Analyst for Governance, Economic Diversification, and Inclusive Growth opening the series of online trainings on trade policy skills development.

A joint project between the UNDP and the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan “Strengthening the Trade Capacity of Turkmenistan” was launched in 2019 and aims to contribute to strengthening and building trade capacity of Turkmenistan, expand competitive potential of country’s economy, and based on that engage new sources of economic growth and improvement of welfare of people.
