Turkmen athletes are set to dominate the girls’ singles category at the “Ashgabat Open 2024” tennis tournament for players under 14, with top seeds Ilima Guseynova, Aylara Kakabaeva, Aynur Annamyradova, Nazli Khudaikuliyeva, and Sulgun Ishankuliyeva advancing to the quarterfinals, along with Safiya Tribunskaya, Jennet Orazaliyeva, and Anna Ponyatova.
In women’s doubles, the top four seeds reached the semifinals, where Guseynova and Kakabaeva will face Agamyradova and Orazaliyeva, while Ishankuliyeva partners with Uzbek player Sharipova against Annamyradova and Khudaikuliyeva.
The boys’ competition is more challenging, with quarterfinalists including Muhammad Usmani (Pakistan) and Mohammed Al Ali (UAE). Eyupbeg Atajanov’s quarterfinal match against Al Ali lasted nearly three hours, while Kerimgeldi Velibekov was edged out by Usmani in about two hours. Among the Turkmen boys, Emirhan Rustamov, Suleyman Khudaiberdyev, Yunus Annamyradov, and Ali Geldiyev made it to the quarterfinals.
In boys’ doubles, Nazar Amangeldiyev and Velibekov will compete against Kazakhstan’s Bobrov and Turkmenistan’s Serdarov. The second-seeded pairing of Annamyradov and Geldiyev will face Malaysia’s Lim and Wong for a spot in the final.
The tournament features athletes from 12 countries, including Great Britain, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, and others.
