Priorities of Turkmenistan’s Policy: Peace, Trust and Constructive Cooperation

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.

The neutral policy of our country plays a significant role in regional and global security and stability. A key aspect of Turkmenistan’s neutrality is preventive diplomacy, which is demonstrated by the establishment of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat in 2007. This center was opened with the support of the Central Asian countries and member states of the United Nations Security Council in accordance with the decision of the UN General Assembly.

Turkmenistan’s policy of positive neutrality offers extensive opportunities for advancing multilateral diplomacy. This includes economic, energy, transport, water, scientific, educational, cultural, humanitarian, parliamentary, medical, environmental, youth, and sports initiatives. These efforts are aimed at fostering mutual understanding, friendly and trusting relations between states and peoples, and developing mutually beneficial partnerships in various fields.

The International Day of Peace has always been a time to lay down weapons and observe ceasefires. But it now must also be a time for people to see each other’s humanity. Our survival as a global community depends on that.
