On March 17, 34 mm of rain fell in Ashgabat. In just 17 days of March – 60.7 mm, which is almost 1.5 times higher than the monthly norm, reported by Meteojournal.
At the same time, 60 mm for the last 3 days. It is worth noting that March, according to climatic norms, is the wettest month of the year.
In the rest of the territory of Turkmenistan, precipitation also passed in most areas, but unlike the foothill regions of the Central Kopetdag, it was noticeably weaker.
Such a sharp abundance of precipitation is observed against the background of prolonged dry weather. Last winter in the city of precipitation fell significantly less than the norm. It was also dry in the first half of the month. For 14 days, 0.7 mm or 1.7% of the monthly norm fell out. Such significant rainfall is essential, after more than a year of drought.
However, it is difficult to say whether this was a “one-time action” of nature or heavy rains can be expected in the future.
Earlier, according to the probabilistic forecasts of the main climatic centers, in general, less than the norm was expected in the territory of Turkmenistan in spring.
