World Diabetes Day

On 14th November the World will celebrate World Diabetes Day. The United Nations General Assembly has officially recognized the 14th of November as “World Diabetes Day” since 2007. According to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) information, the number of people with diabetes worldwide has increased from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014.

Diabetes Mellitus is the most common type of diabetes in the world. Diabetes Mellitus is divided into 2 types. They are type 1 and type 2. Type 1 occurring mainly in people between the ages of 0-30, generally with weak body and live dependent on insulin all his or her life.

WHAT IS DIABETES?

Diabetes, the insulin hormone that balances the blood glucose level; It is a chronic metabolic disorder that occurs as a result of not being used in the body despite its lack or sufficient secretion. Common main clinical symptoms of diabetes; Drinking too much water, passing a lot of urination, frequent urination at night, eating too much, weight gain or weakening, blurred vision, vaginal itching, weakness, and exhaustion in women.

WORLD DIABETES DAY HISTORY

It was decided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) to celebrate November 14 as World Diabetes Day, in memory of the birthday of Fredrick Bantig, who discovered insulin in 1921 and made it possible to treat millions of patients with diabetes. The United Nations General Assembly has officially recognized the 14th of November as “World Diabetes Day” since 2007.
