Recently, a ceremonial presentation of passports to individuals who were granted Turkmen citizenship took place at the State Migration Service following the instructions of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The event was attended by representatives of international organizations, foreign accredited media in Turkmenistan, as well as local ministries and departments. This significant event coincided with the national holiday, Independence Day of the Motherland, and serves as a confirmation of Turkmenistan’s commitment to humane traditions, principles of humanity, and goodwill.
According to the decree signed by the Head of State at the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on September 20, 1,146 people from 29 nationalities residing in the country became citizens of Turkmenistan. Additionally, as per the Resolution of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, 134 individuals from six states and representing 15 nationalities were granted residence permits in Turkmenistan.
As a permanent member of the International Organization for Migration, Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to international community efforts through projects and programs in this area. By acceding to the main international legal instruments of the United Nations, including the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, the Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons, and the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, Turkmenistan has reaffirmed its commitment to assumed obligations.
During the passport presentation ceremony, individuals accepted into Turkmenistan’s citizenship expressed deep gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for their attention to addressing the difficulties of stateless persons and creating favorable conditions for their prosperous life.
