On March 5, 2025, Tokyo hosted the International Symposium on Water and Disaster for Cooperation and Partnership, bringing together high-ranking officials from government agencies, international organizations, private sector representatives, and civil society. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan’s delegation included members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkmen State Water Management Scientific-Production and Project Institute “Türkmensuwylymtaslama.”
The event commenced with the participation of Emperor Naruhito of Japan.
Later in the day, water sector experts convened for a meeting as part of the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue.
During the discussions, Turkmen representatives highlighted the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan regarding the protection and sustainable management of water resources, previously presented at international forums. They emphasized the crucial role of water resources in achieving sustainable development in Central Asia.
It was noted that transboundary water cooperation is vital for maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Given the growing challenges posed by global climate change, the importance of prudent and efficient water resource management was strongly underscored.
