The new page in Turkmen-Hungarian relations

In the period of the epoch of New Revival of a powerful state, permanent neutral Turkmenistan claims at the international level for the further strengthening of peace, security and sustainable development, especially for the further development of peaceful, mutual peace and trusting relations with the countries of the world. This contributes to the increase of the international reputation of the Motherland and the further development of cooperation with the countries of the world. One such country is the Republic of Hungary.

Turkmen-Hungarian relations go back to ancient times. Relations between the two peoples were further developed mainly through the famous Great Silk Road in the Middle Ages. Merchants from Turkmen lands sold their goods to Europe, including Hungary. Even the Huns, the ancestors of the Turkmen people, settled in Hungarian lands under the leadership of Attila. This testifies to the connection between the history, culture and traditions of the two friendly peoples.

After the independence of the permament neutral Turkmenistan, a new page was opened in these historical relations. Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Hungary and our country were established on May 11, 1992. This greatly contributed to the further development of Turkmen-Hungarian relations in economic, cultural and scientific-educational fields. Currently, the Republic of Hungary, being one of the main partners of the country in the fields of fuel and energy, transport, communication and trade and economy, actively supports the international initiatives of Turkmenistan on energy, transport and environmental security at the international level. Turkmenistan actively conducts cooperation with Hungary on a bilateral and multilateral basis. Along with this, it is important to further strengthen the traditional political-diplomatic relations, to continue regular consultations at the level of foreign policy institutions. The two countries are committed to effective relations within the UN, OSCE, EU and other prestigious international organizations. Hungary highly values the peace-loving foreign policy of Turkmenistan based on its permanent neutrality and supports international initiatives that are consistent with the goals of ensuring overall security, well-being and sustainable development of the country.

On 8th May 2023 year, the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban led a representative delegation of his country, which arrived in Turkmenistan on official visit at the invitation of the President of Turkmenistan.
