Turkmen-Iranian relations

At present, neutral Turkmenistan continues to develop peaceful relations with the countries of the world. The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the main partners of our country in this area, especially in the field of fuel and energy, transport and communications, trade and economy. Turkmenistan actively conducts bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Iran and expands it at a high pace.

The visit of the national leader of the Turkmen people to the Islamic Republic of Iran has become an important step in the development of relations between the two peoples and will further strengthen bilateral relations based on the principles of mutual peace, friendship and humanism.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on February 18, 1992. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During this period, the cooperation between the two countries was more extensive in the trade, economic, scientific, educational, cultural and humanitarian spheres. For example, in 1996 the Tejen-Serakhs-Mashat railway was opened, in 1997 the Korpeje-Gurtguyy gas pipeline, in 2010 the Dovletabat-Serakhs-Khangeran gas pipeline, and the Dostluk reservoir was built on the border of two friendly countries. This development is not only in these areas, but also in the cultural, humanitarian, scientific, educational, and tourism sectors.
