Turkmenistan will undertake a comprehensive modernization of the strategic railway connecting Ashgabat with the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi. The decision was announced at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting chaired by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov via a digital platform.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers M. Chakyev presented a report on the development of the country’s transport and logistics system, emphasizing the importance of the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway as a key component in integrating national routes into major international transport corridors, including Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, North–South, and East–West.
According to the report, the modernization of this railway line will significantly increase Turkmenistan’s transit capacity and further strengthen its role in regional and global transport networks.
Summarizing the discussion, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that the creation of advanced logistics infrastructure is a central priority of the country’s socio-economic development strategy. The Head of State approved the proposal for a full-scale reconstruction of the railway and instructed the Vice Premier to proceed with its implementation.
