Civil Society Forum Opens at LLDC3 in Awaza with High-Level Call for Action

Awaza, Turkmenistan – August 4, 2025 — The LLDC3 Civil Society Forum officially opened today in Awaza, marking a historic moment as the first-ever Civil Society Forum held alongside a UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs). With high-level speakers from the Government of Turkmenistan, the United Nations, and global civil society organizations, the opening session underscored the critical role of civil society in shaping the Awaza Programme of Action.

Held ahead of the Third UN Conference on LLDCs (August 5–8), the Forum offers a dedicated space for civil society, academia, and private sector voices to influence sustainable development strategies for some of the world’s most geographically disadvantaged nations.

Speaking at the opening, representatives called for stronger multi-stakeholder partnerships and emphasized civil society’s role in driving structural transformation, climate resilience, and inclusive innovation. A dynamic panel discussion followed, setting the tone for two days of collaborative dialogue focused on solutions, partnerships, and policies tailored to LLDCs’ unique challenges.

The Forum continues through August 5 with plenaries on environmental sustainability, digital innovation, and financial architecture, culminating in a civil society declaration to be presented at the LLDC3 conference closing session.
