President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan held a meeting with executives from the Malaysian company Petronas Carigali on Thursday during his official visit to Malaysia. The discussions centered on key areas of bilateral cooperation, recent achievements, and future prospects, particularly in the context of evolving global economic conditions, as reported by Turkmenistan’s official media.
The talks focused on the oil and gas sector, one of Turkmenistan’s most rapidly growing industries. Both sides recognized Petronas’s significant role in exploiting the country’s energy resources. The Malaysian company has been involved in hydrocarbon extraction projects in Turkmenistan for almost three decades and has contributed to the training of skilled professionals for the sector.
The energy sector was identified as a crucial area for continued collaboration, with discussions exploring new opportunities for partnership in light of ongoing reforms and economic progress in Turkmenistan.
Petronas officials thanked President Berdimuhamedov for creating favorable conditions for the company’s operations in Turkmenistan and expressed confidence in the future success of their bilateral relations.
During his visit, President Berdimuhamedov also toured the Skybridge observation bridge, which links the iconic Petronas Towers. Standing at 451.9 meters, the bridge is one of the tallest buildings in the world and showcases innovative architectural solutions. The 58.4-meter-long, 750-ton bridge holds the record as the highest two-tiered bridge globally.
The visit underscored Turkmenistan’s commitment to using advanced technologies in architecture and urban planning as part of a large-scale infrastructure development program, which includes projects in Ashgabat and the newly planned city of Arkadag.
Before returning to Ashgabat, President Berdimuhamedov expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and a special publication commemorating the high-level visits. Upon his return to Turkmenistan, he was welcomed by officials, who congratulated him on the successful completion of his visit. The outcomes reaffirmed the commitment of both Turkmenistan and Malaysia to strengthening their long-term, mutually beneficial partnership.
