Meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation

On December 16, 2024, the 15th Joint Meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japan-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation took place at the “Yildiz” Hotel in Ashgabat. About report Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

The Japanese delegation, led by Mr. Hiroyuki Tsubai—who is a Member of the Board of Directors of Itochu Corporation, Executive Vice President, and President of the Machinery and Equipment division, as well as Chairman of the Japan-Turkmen Committee on Economic Cooperation—visited Turkmenistan for this working forum.

Prior to the main meeting, a smaller, focused meeting was held. The Japanese delegation included leaders from major Japanese companies and representatives from the Japanese Trade Association, ROTOBO.

The agenda for the joint meeting covered a wide range of topics, focusing on key areas of cooperation, including transportation, construction, industry, electric power, ecology, and “green” energy, among others.

In his speech, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, R. Meredov, praised the representation from both delegations. He noted the positive progress made by the committees, which serve as effective platforms for exchanging ideas, identifying new cooperative areas, and developing actionable plans for the near future. These efforts aim to establish a strong foundation for ongoing constructive dialogue.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that regular meetings between the leaders of the two countries provide a significant political impetus for advancing large-scale, long-term initiatives designed to strengthen the friendship and partnership between Turkmenistan and Japan.

The successful development of joint cooperation in sectors such as trade, oil and gas, chemical industry, communications, finance, healthcare, science, and education was highlighted in several speeches.

During the meeting, multiple documents were signed between government agencies and leading Japanese companies in sectors like the chemical and gas industries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a Final Protocol was signed, marking the end of the joint session of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation.
