The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted Turkmenistan’s initiative for a Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zone in Central Asia during its regular meeting on December 2, as part of the 79th session. This was announced by Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister, during an online government meeting on Friday, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

At the initiative of the President, the country consistently proposes actions to enhance global peace, foster trust, and improve international efforts across various sectors. The adoption of the relevant UN resolutions underscores the significance of these initiatives and the broad international support they receive.

On behalf of the government, Meredov congratulated the President on this foreign policy achievement, wishing him good health and continued success for the country’s prosperity, the strengthening of its international standing, and the well-being of the Turkmen people.

Turkmenistan’s National Leader and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, also congratulated the President on this milestone. He emphasized that the adoption of the resolution is particularly significant in a year dedicated to ‘The Treasure of Wisdom of Magtymguly Pyragy’ and ahead of the country’s upcoming Day of Permanent Neutrality celebrations.

The government meeting also reviewed the achievements of the past eleven months and discussed key priorities for the country’s socio-economic development.
