Turkmenistan takes part in the “Future Now – Central Asia” music and film festival

The “Future Now – Central Asia” music and film festival is being held in Berlin from November 12 to 20, 2024. Organized by Dr. Gabriele Minz GmbH, a company specializing in international cultural projects, the festival aims to introduce German audiences to the social, cultural, and future developments of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, all of which have enjoyed diplomatic ties with Germany for 30 years. The event facilitates creative exchanges, allowing young musicians and filmmakers from these Central Asian nations to showcase their cultural traditions and dialogue with their German counterparts. About this report Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

The festival kicked off with a concert on November 12 at the Berlin Philharmonic, featuring performances by six trios, one from each Central Asian country and one from Germany. The musicians presented works inspired by nature in their national musical traditions. Turkmenistan was represented by students from the Turkmen National Conservatory named after Mai Kuliyeva: S. Ataniyazov, K. Byashimov, and A. Babaguliyev. The trio performed “Türkmenistanyň tebigaty” (Nature of Turkmenistan) on stringed instruments. The concert organizers noted that these young musicians are award-winners in national and international chamber music competitions.

Additionally, five films from emerging Central Asian filmmakers are being screened as part of the festival. On November 14, the Turkmen feature film Istärin, directed by Arslan Eyeberdiev, will be screened. The film, which delves into the poetic and spiritual world of the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi, will be followed by a discussion.
