On October 31, 2024, a cultural evening titled “Magtymguly Pyragy and Turkmen-Tajik Friendship” was held at the Magtymguly Secondary School in Dusti district, Khatlon region of the Republic of Tajikistan. This event brought together Turkmen and Tajik writers, poets, and journalists and was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Tajikistan, in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the Writers’ Union of Tajikistan, as reported on the website of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Among the speakers were Ambassador A. Goçmyradow, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan K. Hushvahtzoda, the Chairman of the Ethics Commission of the Tajikistan Parliament’s House of Representatives F. Barotzoda, and the First Deputy Chairman of the Tajikistan Writers’ Union A. Mirhoja, as well as A. Hamdam, a prominent writer, translator, and playwright in Tajikistan. Diplomats accredited in Tajikistan also attended, adding an international presence to the gathering.
Speakers highlighted the universal significance of Magtymguly Pyragy’s work, noting that his poetry not only holds a special place in Turkmen culture but also resonates with people worldwide. The event underscored the growing cultural partnership between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, symbolizing their strengthening ties in cultural and educational exchange.
During the evening, an exhibition dedicated to the life and works of the great poet Magtymguly Pyragy was held. The display featured books by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan, and the President of Turkmenistan. Additionally, collections of Magtymguly Pyragy’s poetry and artworks by contemporary artists were showcased, offering a glimpse into Turkmen literary heritage and artistic expression.
