On October 2, 2024, at Kent State University in the state of Ohio, USA, the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Eastern philosopher and classical poet Magtymguly Pyragy was celebrated at a high level. The event was attended by a delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Azat Atayev, Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, who is currently on a working visit to the USA to establish long-term cooperation with prestigious educational institutions in the United States. Also attending were American residents, Turkmen students studying in the United States, and members of the Turkmen diaspora.
The celebration began with speeches by Kent State University’s Vice President for Global Education, Marcello Fantoni, and the Director of Eurasian Strategy, Ayya Hudaýbergenowa.
During the event, teachers and students from the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction performed songs, traditional music, and folklore. Additionally, Maýa Tüýliýewa, founder and director of the Kansas City Music Academy in the USA, performed on the piano. The executive director of the “Boba and Wolt Wika” Poetry Center, David Hassler, and Magtymguly scholar, Durdy Ilmämmedow, also made presentations.
Moreover, the Turkmen Ambassador to the United States, Meret Orazov, Deputy Minister of Education Azat Atayev, and others spoke about the life and creative works of Magtymguly Pyragy, highlighting the profound meanings in his classical philosophical poems.
This celebration was part of the working visit of the Turkmen delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Education Azat Atayev, aiming to explore the potential for long-term cooperation with prestigious American universities. This initiative is also in line with the “Youth International Cooperation Strategy of Turkmenistan for 2023-2030,” which outlines the goal of studying the possibility of opening branches of foreign universities, including within Turkmenistan.
