On September 16, 2024, the National Youth Conference on Climate Change was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event brought together representatives from various Turkmen government ministries and organizations, UN agencies, embassies from several countries, as well as young ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), young people aged 17 to 35, teachers, and students from higher educational institutions in Turkmenistan.
The conference, coinciding with the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, provided a platform for discussions on environmental issues and opportunities for youth participation in combating climate change. Seven groups discussed various topics such as international legal instruments in the field of climate change, IT technologies in combating climate change, sustainable management of natural resources in the Turkmen Aral Sea region, and more.
The participants discussed advanced technologies for improving energy efficiency, transitioning to clean energy sources, and implementing standards to reduce environmental impact. The conference emphasized the role of the younger generation in adapting to climate change and discussed the importance of young people’s involvement in projects to combat climate change.
As a result of the discussions, the organizers announced future goals to make significant contributions toward solving climate change problems, promising more opportunities for learning, collaboration, and action.
