The water level in the Aral Sea is rising rapidly

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan has reported an increase in the volume of water in the northern part of the Aral Sea. Since the beginning of the year, 1.1 billion cubic meters of water have flowed into the northern Aral Sea, bringing the current volume to 21.4 billion cubic meters.

At the 86th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination, it was agreed that 997 million cubic meters of water would flow into the northern Aral Sea during the irrigation season, with an inflow of at least 30 cubic meters per second. Currently, the sea is receiving 50 cubic meters of water per second, compared to just six cubic meters per second a year ago. This increase in inflow is attributed to the completion of the Kokaral Dam, which has allowed for raising the water level in the northern Aral Sea by separating it from the southern Aral Sea.
