Turkmenistan’s boxing team is on the rise, with the aim of securing its first Olympic quotas at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournament. The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) press service stated that the country’s boxers have proven their skills and development. The best boxers from Turkmenistan, including Shukur Ovezov (57 kg), Saparmyrat Odaev (63.5 kg) and Bayramdurdy Nurmukhammedov (71 kg), will participate in the 2nd World Qualifying Boxing Tournament to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 23 to June 3. The tournament awards tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Over the past two years, the head coach of the national team, Tenilbek Dzhumakulov, has built a strong junior, youth, U22, and elite team. Durdymammet Kuljaev, the Secretary General of the country’s Boxing Federation, shared that the national federation plans to hold domestic competitions in June or September of this year. Additionally, they aim to send boxers to as many international tournaments as possible.
Durdymammet Kuljaev stated, “We have big plans to host the Asian Championship in our country in the near future. We will organize negotiations on this matter with ASBC.”
