On October 31, 2023, the city of Ashgabat officially became part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the “Design category” on World Cities Day, by decision of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.
As we know, Turkmenistan started doing the right activities in this area in 2021. They worked with organizations, committees, and international experts from UNESCO. Over time, people around the world have agreed that Ashgabat is a stunning and technologically advanced city. The legal status mentioned earlier was given to our capital city because of its growth and in line with current global urban trends.
This year, 55 new cities became part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. On October 31, 2023, UNESCO recognized the city of Ashgabat for its strong commitment to using culture to improve society. They officially became a part of UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the “Design category” on World Cities Day.
We all know that Turkmenistan started doing the right things in this area in 2021. They worked with groups, committees, and international experts from UNESCO. Over time, Ashgabat has been well-known and appreciated by people around the world as a stunning and modern city. This means that our capital city has been designated a certain legal status because of its growth and development, following current global urban trends.
This year, 55 more cities joined a group called UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Some cities were recognized for their dedication to using culture and creativity for their growth and for having innovative approaches to planning cities that focus on people. The Network now has 350 cities in over 100 countries. It includes seven creative fields: Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music.
The head of UNESCO said that the cities in the Creative Cities Network are doing a great job in making culture more accessible and using creativity to make cities stronger and better. These cities are also coming up with new and smart ways to plan their cities based on the needs and interests of the people. With the new additions, the Network now has 350 cities in over 100 countries. These cities represent seven different creative fields: Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music.
The Director-General of UNESCO said that the cities in the Creative Cities Network are examples of how to make culture more available and use creativity to make cities stronger and develop better.
