World Science Day for Peace and Development

Development, celebrated annually on November 10, aims to highlight the important role of science in society and the need for the general public to participate in discussions of emerging scientific issues. This Day also highlights the importance and relevance of science to everyday life.

By building bridges between science and society, World Science Day for Peace and Development aims to keep citizens informed of emerging science trends, while emphasizing the role of scientists in expanding our understanding of the wonderful, fragile planet we call home and making our societies more sustainable.

The organization of a targeted event related to the popularization of science and problems of society, which could be one of the positive outcomes of the World Conference on Science, was discussed at its meetings in Budapest. It was felt that such an event would provide an annual commitment to the goals of the Declaration on Science and the Use of Scientific Knowledge and to promote the implementation of the recommendations of the Science Agenda – Framework for Action. The primary reason for the celebration of the World Science Day for Peace and Development is the overwhelming importance of the role of science and scientists in creating a sustainable society, as well as the need to inform citizens about the achievements of science and their participation in it. In this sense, the Day will allow the general public to demonstrate the relevance of science for its life and to involve it in the discussion of science issues. An event of this kind also opens up a unique perspective for the search for peace and development on a global scale.
