Cotton picking season is open

Starting from September 8, all the provinces of Turkmenistan, except for Dashoguz, officially open the cotton picking season. Due to the special weather conditions in the northern region of the country, the collection of “white gold” will begin on 15 September. “At present, using high-quality harvesters, the work on picking cotton is almost completely automated,” says Kadyr Muradov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the TSAU named after S. A. Niyazov, in an interview with the online radio “Voice of the CIS”.

In the spring, 620 thousand hectares of medium-fiber cotton varieties Yoloten-7, Yoloten-39, Dashoguz-120, Dashoguz-114, Jeyhun, 149 F, Gubadag-3, S-2606 and fine-fiber varieties Yoloten-14 were planted in the country. Private farmers are also involved in the cultivation of this crop. They were allocated land plots from a special fund for agricultural purposes, and soft loans for the purchase of agricultural equipment. This year it is planned to collect 1,250,000 tons of “white gold”.

For effective work in this sector of the economy, advanced equipment of well-known manufacturers are constantly being purchased. So, in November 2019, John Deere and Turkmenistan signed an agreement for the supply of 600 model 9970 cotton harvesters. The first batch of 300 machines arrived in 2019, while the remaining 300 harvesters arrived in 2020. It should be noted that the four-row John Deere 9970 combine is a modern model, with an average productivity of 12 hectares per 10 hours, the volume of the bunker is 4 tons.

To receive the new harvest, 122 collection points and 39 cotton ginning enterprises have been prepared, where the quality of the products obtained is checked in special laboratories.
