In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Growth. The SDGs have replaced the Millennium Development Goals programs. As a result, significant success was achieved. Since the countries that adopted the SDGs recognized its success, they adopted a further SDG programs. The program consists of 17 goals aimed at eradicating poverty, preserving the planet’s resources and ensuring prosperity. Each goal contains a set of indicators to be achieved within 15 years.
Foremost among these is Goal for “Ensuring inclusive and equal quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Despite the development that countries has reached the at the present time, education is still a major problem. Despite the fact that in developing countries the number of children enrolled in primary schooling has reached 91 percent worldwide, the number of school-age children out of school is still 57 million. In addition, most of them live in African countries and in areas affected by the conflict. In most countries, girls and women cannot even get a secondary education, let alone a higher education. Education not only promotes intercultural dialogue, but also influences the development of the country and helps to get out of poverty.
Turkmenistan will also contribute to the achievement of these goals. According to the Decree “On improving the education system in Turkmenistan” from the 2013-2014 academic year, the period of study in secondary schools is 12 years, and in higher educational institutions – 5 years (the period of study in medical specialties and certain types of arts is 6 years). The transition period is also one of the most important achievements in education. The active introduction of computer technologies, interactive teaching methods in teaching practice, expanding the accessibility of global media resources of Internet for young people and many other activities are associated with the care of providing quality education to the young generation of the country. Dozens of educational and scientific institutions are built annually. The country has 44,256 preschool institutions and 231 secondary schools, which are fully equipped with the latest computers, teaching facilities and interactive multimedia technologies. Today, there are 1,860 general education schools in the country, enrolling 1,203.9 thousand students.
Turkmenistan not only develops its country, but also provides humanitarian assistance to countries in need, for example, Afghanistan. In accordance with intergovernmental agreements, scholarships have been provided to Afghan youth in Turkmen universities since 2004. In Turkmenistan, Afghan youth receive education in agriculture, oil and gas, energy and medicine. Among the humanitarian supplies sent to the neighboring country are school furniture. Thanks to the efforts of the esteemed President, a school for 400 children was put into operation in the Khazar-Tokay village of the Shordepe region of the Balkan province.
In response to the care of our wise Arkadag in the development of the education system in our country, we teachers will work tirelessly to form educated and perfect personalities from the younger generation.
