The implementation of the SDGs is a duty of every individual!

On October 8, 2019, was held guest lecture for students of the Faculty of International Relations at KIMEP University in Almaty. The university invited Mr. Vlastimil Samek, UN representative in Almaty. Topic of the lecture was “Progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The lecture was attended mainly by students from Central Asia. Students with interest shared their knowledge about the achievements of their countries in implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This topic was especially interesting for students from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, as in July this year in New York their countries presented the first Voluntary National Reviews on the implementation of the SDGs. Mr. Vlastimil Samek and Dean of the Department of International Relations of KIMEP noted the progress, as well as the awareness and interest of the youth of Turkmenistan in the development of their country. At the end of the lecture, students of the Faculty of International Relations, as future diplomats, asked questions to the UN representative regarding the skills and knowledge that a diplomat should possess in order to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs and the development of foreign policy of their countries.

The awareness of our youth about the ongoing transformations and achievements of Turkmenistan since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda once again confirms that the younger generation is not indifferent to the future of the country and who, by their activity, demonstrate their readiness to use the knowledge acquired at the university for the benefit of their homeland. Mr. Samek thanked future diplomats for their interest in the UN, their desire to contribute to the sustainable development program, and also gave parting words to students, and emphasized: “The future is behind educated and conscious youth!”
